Parts II and III of Directive 32/2009 list extraction solvents whose conditions of use are specified to ensure they are not a danger to human health. The EU’s authorised solvents for extraction in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices are: You must only use solvents according to their conditions of use per foodstuff or food ingredient in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices. Authorised solvents and their conditions of use, along with their maximum residue limits, are outlined in EC Directive 32/2009. To ensure consumer safety, the EU regulates the use of extraction solvents in food production. For more information about Integrated Pest Management see the FAO website. Applying the Integrated Pest Management System (IPM) which is an agricultural pest control strategy using control practices in addition to chemical spraying, is one way to do this.
